Once upon a time, everyone thought that everything was made by men. Everyone thought that women
were imperfect of creating anything new. It brought down the morality of the
women into thinking that their life was bound inside the four walls of the house. Men
had responsibilities and roles such as politician, Scientist, Philosopher, ECT.
If women mention anything about society it would be suppressed. Greece was
a true believer of this.
Mithalia was a woman whose motivation sparked
from the inequality of genders. She wanted to show that two genders prevail in
order of existence. One gender cannot survive without the other. This was not
well understood at that time. The sight of men showing his dominance was very exasperating. Mithalia
wanted to be a goldsmith. Even though the norms of society did not allow her to
do so, she fought and her struggle was joined by many other women.
They succeeded in
opening up a small goldsmith shop. They were doing a small scale business even
though rarely anyone brought their products. At that time in Greece gradually
jewellery entrepreneurs were becoming bankrupt. So the competition for gold was decreasing.
Luckily Mithalia’s gold shop was able to hang on and avoid the financial crisis.
This provided a prosperous boon as buyers
were increasing and
people were lined up in front of their shops anxious to see what the shop has
to offer. Meanwhile, the elders were alarmed that the shop was profiting and
functioning even better than before. They wanted to end this beacon of hope to
show the women their position in society. People were not ready to stop visiting the shop
as a time only two shops were reigning the jeweller industry. The rival shop was
on its way to collapse. People were amazed that a woman entrepreneur was
successful despite all odds. The town hall was infuriated that men were appreciating women. They
ordered troops to occupy the shop. The women were not able to defend themselves
as many were harassed in front of the streets. Many even committed suicide for
that reason. Mithalia was able to defend herself from this cruelty. But sadly
after some time assassins came to kill her. The World mourns for her loss for
she is who she has become for her deeds of nobility. But before she died she
uttered, “My jeweller's shop was not man-made.”
